Can my Guinea Pig eat Mushrooms, Shiitake, Raw?

No, they can never eat it!

Contains chitin and excessive protein - poorly digestible

Mushrooms are usually considered a culinary vegetable, but belong to the fungal family, which are more closely related to animals than plants. As a result, the nutritional breakdown of mushrooms contains more protein than a vegetable, as well as chitin, the same material in insect shells, making mushrooms unsuitable for feeding pets.

Guinea pigs and rabbits should have a variety of at least 5 different types of leafy greens to protect against nutritional excesses and deficiencies. At least 80% of the diet should be a good quality grass or cereal hay.
