When To Switch A Puppy To Adult Food

puppy to adult food

This depends on the adult size of the dog!

It makes sense to switch a puppy to adult food when they're ready as puppy foods are designed to support growth, but the timing to switch will vary depending on the breed and size of the dog, as well as their individual development.

For mini and small breed sizes weighing under 10 kg, these dogs reach adult size at 10-12 months, so 12 months is appropriate to switch to an adult food. For medium breeds weighing between 10 and 20 kg, they reach adult size generally between 12 to 16 months, so between 14 to 16 months is appropriate to switch to adult food

For large breeds weighing between 20 and 40 kg, they grow to adult size between 16 to 18 months, so switch between that period.

For giant breeds weighing over 40 kg, they reach adult size between 18 to 24 months, so switching between 20 to 22 months is an appropriate time frame.
